Is Real Estate in Mexico regulated? No and Yes. Real Estate agents and brokers are not licensed by the government. AMPI is the National Association of Real Estate Professionals that have, since 1956, gathered under laws and codes of ethics and conduct to create a reliable, trustworthy, and efficient real estate environment in Mexico. 

To be a member of AMPI you have to pay a yearly membership fee and take classes that translate into credit hours. An AMPI member has to have a certain amount of credit hours per year to remain a member.

There are more and more AMPI chapters established around the country.

Furthermore, the state of Jalisco recently passed a new law to indeed regulate real estate. Read more here.

The new law says that you must:

1. Be an accredited real estate agent with correct classes approved by the government.

2. Prove that you use an approved legal listing contract by PROFECO.

3. Agree to comply with mandatory continuing education. and more…
